Ever got stuck doing a maths problem for homework? Ever though – “I could do this in school, but now that I’m home I can’t remember how to do it?”. Well there is a new website out there which promises to help. The Transition Year students of Ratoath College in County Meath have been busy working on a new and innovative Digital Media Studies Project. Their Project, called MyStudyMate promisesto be of benefit to all students in Ireland. The project involved the students setting up an online revision material website filled entirely with videos and podcasts presented by students, for students. The website is completely free for everyone and it promises to be an interesting way for students revise when preparing for exams or just catching up on a topic that they found hard. The website, www.mystudymate.ie is up and running and the TY students of Ratoath are asking for schools and students all over Ireland to get involved with this initiative by producing their own video lessons, for publishing on the MyStudyMate website.
Digital Media Studies Teacher at Rataoth, David Walsh, said “This is an exciting project which provides students with a platform to share their own learning with students all over Ireland and beyond. It is completely student produced and as such belongs to students and not private companies, trying to earn a fast buck from stressed students. The TY students at Ratoath have been working tirelessly to produce this website and I would encourage all students to visit www.mystudymate.ie to have a look at what they have produced. Also, please tell your subject teachers about the website because we are looking for as many schools as possible to come on board with the project and contribute their own videos or podcasts.”
So innovative is the project, that it has been selected to represent Ireland at this years Microsoft Innovative Teaching Conference which takes place in Germany in late March. The judges have already commented that the project has the potential to revolutionise the way students in Ireland revise. Ratoath College are extremely proud of the students work and congratulated the students on their great achievement. Transition Year student Emma Costigan explained “this project is completely student made and we hope that students use it and tell their friends about it. We are looking for schools and students from all over Ireland to help introduce more topics and more subjects all the time, so get on to your teachers and start recording your videos or podcasts.” For further information, visit mystudymate.ie or email mystudymate247@gmail.com
